The Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas College, Akure, Mr. Afolabi Oni Michael has pointed out that returning of the School to Roman Catholic Church, the original owner is going to be a value addition to education sector of the country as virtues and discipline of the school will be brought back.
While speaking with The Democrat News Magazine in his office last week, Mr. Afolabi Oni Michael said: “Let me first of all thank God for doing it for Roman Catholic, and the Ondo State Government for acceded the demand of the Mission so that our culture can come back.
In his words: “We are well known in the areas of sports, moral, academic excellent performance over the years.
“It is confirmed that Aquinas College is the best in the whole of Nigeria. When you came in through our gate, you can see how great it is; no school in Nigeria can boast of such, our hall is the biggest in the whole of Akure and our pavilion no other secondary school has such in Ondo State.
“Apart from all these, it is only Aquinas that has three National Award Winners- in the field Medicine, Engineering and Chemistry others may have one or two.
Oni said that during the western state the school defeated Loyola College, Ibandan twice and others to lift Omitola Cup two times.
“Let me use this medium to appreciate the old students. All these achievements I mentioned earlier are achieved through the Old Students of this school. Our old students are very versatile.
He said that although the school will be governing like private school but with great impact saying that it will take six years for government to finally hand over.
“This year government will not admit into JSS one, but the Mission will do and gradually till the last lap when government will now redeploy all their staff and school will be finally handed over to Roman Catholic.
He also charged the Old Students Association of the School not to relent in contributing more to the development of their Alma-Mater.
