Glamour As Egbe-Akomolede Bestows Chieftaincy Title ‘Yeye-Oge’ On Mrs. O. S. Akinbohun
It was indeed a moment of honour and celebration of quality personality of a woman whose impactful service life to humanity cannot be overemphasized as Egbe-Akomolede Ati Asa Yoruba Naijeria, Ondo State Chapter bestowed chieftaincy title of ‘Yeye-Oge’ on the Principal of Akure Secondary Commercial School, Mrs. Omoshileola Stella Akinbohun.
The chieftaincy title was bestowed on her among many digintaries from all walks of life during the first Summit of Egbe-Akomolede in Ondo State on 18th of April, 2024 at Cultural Centre, Adegbemile, Akure, Ondo State.
The organizers of the event led by the state coordinator, Alhaja Aminat Ahuoiza Olagboye said that the purpose the event was to bring about re-awakening of Yoruba language and culture that is fast becoming obsolete among the new generation and to honour some individuals that are living as role models in the society to keep Yoruba culture for posterity.
While speaking with the Democrat News Magazine the Principal of Akure Secondary Commercial School, Mrs. Omoshileola Stella Akinbohun appreciated the organizers of the Programme for her nomination as ‘Yeye-Oge’ of Egbe-Akomolede saying that she will continue to be good ambassador of Yoruba culture.
Mrs. Akinbohun said: “I have been a proponet of Yoruba language and culture and I want all and sundry to emulate it, particularly the grand mothers that usually go to help their children to take care their new born babies to play pivotal roles in the preservation of the culture of Yoruba.
“In all the states in South West, it is only in Ondo State that we are yet to make Yoruba language compulsory for students of all classes both in the Primary and Secondary Schools. We have to start the process of making it compulsory in all our schools and we believe that Government of Ondo State will ratify it as we are going to start the push from Ondo State House of Assembly.”
Mrs. Stella Omoshileola Akinbohun, a multiple Award-winning Principal whose good will and quality leadership has brought about the tranformation and development of Akure Secondary Commercial School; used the medium to charge all students and teachers to imbibe teaching and learning processes in Yoruba language as a way to stimulate better understanding.
She pointed out that when a teacher uses Yoruba to explain mathematics to the students, it will facilitate quick and better assimilation.
Also in his comment, Prince Olu-Atere, the Chairman of Local Organizing Committee said one of that purposes of conference is to reawake the conciouness of stakeholders to ensure that Yoruba language becomes compulsory from Primary to secondary level.
The guest speaker, Mr. Siji Babatunde, a retired Lecturer from Bamidele Olomiluha University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti said that Yoruba language takes 6th position among prominent languages in the world. He therefore called on stakeholders to step up plans to get better prominence for Yoruba.
Some of them are: Iyaloja General of Ondo, Princess Adenike Aroloye, Principal of Imade College, National President of Akomolede in Nigeria and a host of others.
