Encomiums As Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School Takes Delivery Multi-Million Naira Miss Pelly’s Legacy Project

It was a day of joy for both old and current students of Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure as the school takes delivery of multi-million naira legacy project in honour of the first Principal of the school, Miss. Rosa Jane Pelly.

The storey building of 12 standard classrooms was commissioned on March 14, 2024 by Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Oluyide Owolabi Adelami.

Aiyedatiwa commended the leadership of the school for great attainment and charged the students on maintenance culture to prolong life span of the legacy project and promised to continue to make contributions that will boost Education in Ondo State.

Earlier in her welcome address, a multiple award winning Principal, Amb. (Dr.) Mrs. Omobola Temitope Ojoge who was full of joy appreciated God for being the Alpha and Omega of the project that opens up the school to a new chapter as she urged them all to carry forward the torch of Miss Pelly’s legacy with pride and determination.

She pointed out that the first storey building of 12 classrooms burned out of selfless and sacrificial life of Miss Pelly who willed part of her cash investment to the school after her death in 2019.

In her words: “Let us embrace the responsibility entrusted to us, to nurture and empower the young women who walk through our doors, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

“As we commemorate this momentous occasion, let us reflect on the journey that brought us here. It is a journey marked by resilience, perseverance, and unwavering dedication. From humble beginning to this moment of triumph, we have overcome challenges, embraced opportunities, and remained steadfast in our commitment to excellence. But let us not rest on our Laurels instead let us look to the future with optimism and determination.”

Speaking at the event, Asiwaju Bike Akinduro- first Head Girl of the School, Chief Afiwagboye Funwa Agbi- National President of Old Students Association, Chief (Mrs.) Kosemani Kolawole- Yeyemeto of Fiwasaye, Adejoke Adegoroye- Global Vice President Old Students’ Association and a host of others remembered her idiosnycrasies with sense of nostalgia.

They described her as selfless woman who left her wealthy family behind to come to serve in Akure as a missionary in 1960 saying that she taught them leadership and honestly even if they will be published, being frugal in spending, how to show love and respect.

Also in his comment at event, High Chief Sola Adegbonmire- Asae of Akure Kingdom expressed his heart of joy and satisfaction to all that Miss Pelly did in her life time calling all the Ministers God to take some of the virtues of the selfless woman.

The Chairman of Parents Teachers Association, Pst Adegbulu Odugbesan expressed satisfaction over the quality leadership skills and virtues that the school is instilling into all students, he therefore appreciate them on behalf of all parents of the school.

Global Vice President of Fiwasaye Old Girls Association Adejoke Adegoroye who represented the President Olujumoke Lambert said that the school inculcated morals into all the students which she said made them standout among the peers in all areas of life.

She pointed out that students will do well in life if they imbibe self-discipline as instilled in them by Miss Pelly.

High Chief Fulani Folorunso Samuel representative of Deji of Akure Oba Dr. Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo and Olujigba, Oba Luyi Rotimi rejoiced With the leadership of the school for such a huge project and promised to make generous contributions to equip a storey building of 12 classrooms.

In his comment, Oloye Adebisi Jimbola, Principal Aquinas College, Akure Congratulated the leadership of the school over the great success recorded.

Men of God present at the event jointly prayed to commence the use of the building, as the school singers took over the stage to add glamour to the occasion.

As part of activities for the ahead of the Commissioning of the project some individuals were conffered with Chieftaincy titles on Tuesday 12th of March while on 13th of March was set aside as back to school.

Indeed it was a day to be remembered  seeing the likes of Retired HoS, Kosemani Kolawole, Retired PS, Bike Akinduro, the current Principal, Amb. Dr. Temitope Ojoge and a host of highly placed individuals dressed in school uniform and were asked to sweep the floor and disciplined as they used to do over 50 years ago.
