The leadership of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Ondo State under the leadership of Rev. (Dr.) Aderanti Joseph Gabriel has called on the state government on the need to support the association to cushion the adverse effects of current economic situation in the country.
The leadership of NAPPS made this known while speaking with journalists at Ondo State Sports Stadium, Akure on Thursday 12th of October, 2023.
Speaking at the occasion, the National President of the Association, Chief Yomi Otubela said “Sustainability for Tomorrow’s Generation: NAPPS Unites For Climate Action” underscored the need for concerted efforts to address the issue of climate change, it’s threats, and sustainable approach to combating it’s impact.
Otubela whose speech was read by the State President Rev. (Dr) Aderanti Joseph Gabriel said that climate change, apart from its impact on the environment is also distrupting national economies and affecting lives thereby costing people, communities and countries dearly.
Otubela charged members to create awareness through community Clean-up Initiatives, Green Workshops, Trees Planting Campaign Educational Seminars, Awareness Campaigns, Students Projects and Partnerships.
In his address Comrade Deji Olatona, The South West President of NAPPS said that the focus and commitment of private institutions towards sustainable practices will pave way for children and universe saying that it is imperative to face the economic challenges headlock to ensure uninterrupted quality education.
The President of NAPPS in Ondo State, Rev. (Dr.) Aderanti Joseph Gabriel in his speech said that the gathering marks a significant moment for the association and their commitment to a better future saying that the theme of their annual event is very timely and relevant in line with current challenge the country is faced with.
In his words: “Our world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges and it is our responsibility to ensure that we leave a planet that is habitable and prosperous for generations to come. NAPPS has always been at the forefront of shaping education in Nigeria and today, we extend that commitment to shape a sustainable future. Education is not merely about classrooms and textbook; it is about preparing our students to be responsible global citizens who understand the critical importance of environmental conservation and climate action.”
Earlier in his interview with journalists, the Chairman of Planning Committee of 2023 NAPPS and Treasurer of the Association in Ondo State, Pst. (Dr.) Ebenezer Akintomide said that the occasion was a special to weigh the impact of private schools stressing that they remained source of blessing to many generations.
Dr. Akintomide noted that they are the lives builders that deserve the support of God and men therefore calling for timely help for private schools because of how current economic downturn affected their members.
He noted that 2024 editions of NAPPS Day will be more glorious therefore calling on the stakeholders to support ahead of next NAPPS Day.
Also Speaking the at the event, Hon. Oyegoke Samuel Ayodele the Organizing Secretary said the private institutions are partnering with government to develop human capital in the state as well as engaged some school leavers as a way to help then.
Also in his comment, Chief Ijidakinro Femi, Immediate past President of NAPPS said government and individuals that are well to do should support NAPPS for their imperative roles in the society.
As part of the highlight of the event was match parade as well as public lecture.
In his good will message the Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Pastor Femi Agagu Commissioner who was represented by Director in charge of Private Schools said that private institutions play a very important role in the society saying that government alone can not do it.
He noted that government will continue to support the association in Ondo State and that they should not relent in their efforts towards sustainable education.
