ELONGATION OF TEACHERS’ SERVICE YEARS: ONDO NUT CELEBRATES AKEREDOLU

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ondo State Wing, under the leadership of Comrade Victor Amoko has appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the ratification of elongation of teachers’ service years.

Comrade Victor Amoko made this commendation known while speaking with journalists in his office on Thursday January 5, 2023 at NUT House Oda road Akure saying that Akeredolu deserves appreciation of teachers in Ondo State.

“I have this honour to tell the whole World that our Governor has done well for teachers in the state. He gave us promotion regularly, he enhance the capacity building of teachers, free education for children of teachers, employment of teachers and now ratification of elongation of teachers’ service years from 35 to 40 years and from age 60 to 65 years.

“This elongation of age and service year will produce experience in our teachers, as we all know experience is very important in teaching profession. As it is practicable in some of the developed countries like UK, Germany, China and USA where their age of years ranges from 67 years.

“Apart from getting better experience, the elongation will also help the new teachers that came at age 40 to be able to reach the pick of their career.

“UK people are demanding for Nigerian Teachers just because they know that we have the experiences needed to pass quality education into their children.

Amoko pointed out that the elongation does not affect recruitment of new teachers as some people believed.

While speaking on the uneven distribution of teachers particularly at the rural area, Amoko said it will take political will to solve such problem saying that many political bigwigs influence the posting of the teachers most of the time to urban areas at the expense of the schools at the rural areas.
