Ijapo High School Akure Holds Spectacular 2025 Inter-House Sports Competition, Showcasing Emerging Talents

The field of Ijapo High School Akure was abuzz with excitement on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, as the school hosted its highly anticipated annual Inter-House Sports Competition showcasing emerging talents.
This year’s event captivated the audience and drew a distinguished crowd of personalities, all contributing to the occasion’s grandeur.
In her welcome address, the Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Fadekemi Jogbodo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for blessing the event with favourable weather, setting the perfect tone for the day’s activities.
She emphasized the importance of inter-house sports as an integral part of the school’s extracurricular offerings, noting how it nurtures both physical and mental well-being.
Dr. Jogbodo extended her sincere appreciation to the Chairman of the occasion, special guests, patrons of the five houses, parents, and the Old Students’ Association for honouring her invitation and attending in full force. She also took a moment to commend the tireless efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the dedicated Sport Committee led by Mrs. Adelegbe, for their meticulous planning and commitment that made the day a resounding success.
With passion and leadership, Dr. Jogbodo encouraged the students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, emphasizing the importance of accepting the outcomes of competition with grace and positivity. She reminded the students of the numerous benefits sports bring – fitness, mental sharpness, and enhanced interpersonal relationships with fellow students.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Dr. Ajibua Michael Alayode, emphasized the significance of sports competitions for students, noting that they play a vital role in enhancing their mental well-being.
He also commended the school management for organizing the event and presented a trophy to be awarded to the overall winner.
The Zonal TESCOM Director, Mr. Olugbenga Fakinlede, was also present at the event and expressed his pleasure at the impressive performances of the students. He took the opportunity to wish the school continued success in its future endeavors.
In his remarks, the President of the Old Students Association, Engr. Ojo Felix, who was ably represented by the National Secretary, thanked the school management for always making them proud.
Mr. Michael Amure, a special guest at the event, took a trip down memory lane as he reflected on his own school days and the integral role sports played in his personal development.
He called for the institution of local government sports competitions among secondary schools to foster a deeper love and engagement in sports at the grassroots level. He also praised Dr. Jogbodo’s exemplary leadership, urging others to follow her footsteps.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman, Mrs. R.O. Agbeleye, spoke on the significant impact sporting activities have on students, particularly in boosting mental alertness, which directly contributes to academic excellence and innovation.
Engr. Tan Mohammed also addressed the gathering, urging the students to stay away from harmful distractions such as drugs and teenage pregnancy, which have become pressing issues in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of engaging in positive, productive activities, further highlighting Dr. Jogbodo’s exceptional leadership in guiding the students towards a brighter future.
The invitation relay race featured participation from several prestigious schools, including Adegbola Memorial Grammar School, Federal Girls’ College Akure, Akure High School, Oyemekun Grammar School, Igoba Community High School, and St. Michael Catholic High School. In the boys’ category, Adegbola Memorial Grammar School secured third place, St. Michael Catholic High School finished in second, and Oyemekun Grammar School Akure claimed the first position.
In the girls’ category, Adegbola Memorial Grammar School came in third, Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School took second, and St. Michael Catholic High School triumphed with the first-place position.
The day also saw thrilling races involving parents and staff, further strengthening the sense of community and teamwork among the school family.
The competition featured several highlights, including the 100-meter race for junior and secondary school students, as well as the Egg, Catching the Train, and Rice Competitions.
As the event came to a close, the much-anticipated overall house rankings were announced. Blue House – (Solomon House) claimed the top spot, with White House- (Adaramola House) in second, Green House- (Engr. Tan House) in third, Red House- (Barr. Amure House) Fourth and Yellow House in fifth.
The 2025 Inter-House Sports Competition at Ijapo High School Akure was an overwhelming success as much thanks to the visionary leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Fadekemi Jogbodo.
