Our Aspiration Is to Make FUTA a World-Class University of Technology – VC, Prof. Adenike Temitayo Oladiji
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), held its 34th and 35th Convocation Ceremonies on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the University Auditorium.
The event, graced by dignitaries and stakeholders, showcased the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and community service.
Delivering the keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Temitayo Oladiji, FAS, expressed gratitude to God and extended a warm welcome to all attendees.
Among the dignitaries present were Ondo State Governor Hon. Eh Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, and His Royal Highness, Alhaji Umar Farouk II, OON, Emir of Katagum, who serves as FUTA’s Chancellor.
Celebrating Academic Excellence and Research Milestones, Prof. Oladiji highlighted FUTA’s remarkable achievements over the year ast academic session, including its consistent ranking among Nigeria’s top ten universities and its position as the best university of technology in the country for two decades. She emphasized that these accomplishments affirm FUTA’s aspiration to become a world-class institution.
In her words: “our key achievements include Global Recognition for Scholars: Forty FUTA scholars featured in Elsevier/Stanford University’s 2024 list of the world’s top 2% scientists.
“Research Grants: The university secured over $1 million in international grants and ₦427 million in National Research Funds from TETFund.
“Innovative Agriculture: FUTA’s Teaching and Research Farm advanced the cultivation of unique tomato and bell pepper varieties, with superior yields and disease resistance.
” State-of-the-Art Facilities: The Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory received equipment worth $200,000 from Seeding Labs, USA, enhancing research capabilities.”and
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted FUTA’s achievements in accreditation and academic Programme expansion:
Full accreditation of 18 Programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The matriculation of pioneer students for FUTA’s Open and Distance Learning and School of Professional Development Programme.
FUTA departments, such as Urban and Regional Planning, were adjudged the best in Nigeria by regulatory bodies, reflecting the institution’s commitment to quality education.
Alumni Success: From developing innovative apps to winning national entrepreneurship competitions, FUTA graduates continue to make impactful contributions globally.
Staff Recognition: Faculty members, including Prof. Funmi Olubode-Sawe and Dr. Toyosi Ige-Jongbo, received prestigious fellowships and awards for their contributions to academia and research.
Prof. Oladiji reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to making FUTA a world-class university through innovative teaching, impactful research, and sustainable partnerships. She thanked all stakeholders for their contributions to the university’s progress and urged continued support in realizing FUTA’s lofty aspirations.
The event culminated in the conferment of degrees on two graduating sets of students, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.
