Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese: A Beacon Of Noble Impact
BIRTH
Dr. Thomas–Wilson Ikubese was born in Lagos to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ikubese on Sunday 22nd of November, 1970.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Young Wilson attended Cherubim and Seraphim primary school, Ikorodu in Lagos between 1977-1983 and proceeded to Majidun Community Grammar School, Ikorodu between 1983-1988. While in the Secondary School, he represented Ikorodu Local Government in debating competitions and won severally based on his oratory strength.
Upon the completion of his School Certificate in 1988, he sat for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and scored six A`s which was the best result in Ikorodu Local Government that year. His age long passion for Medicine made him proceed to the University of Benin School of Medicine in 1991 where he studied and graduated with MBBS, Medicine and Surgery
Dr Ikubese then proceeded to the prestigious National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, where he graduated with DFM from the Faculty of Family Medicine.
In pursuit of his passion, geared at putting smiles on the faces of couples who are trying to achieve conception and carry their babies, Dr Ikubese proceeded to the Creighton University affiliated Saint Paul VI Institute For the Study of Human Reproduction in Omaha Nebraska, United States of America, in his quest to become a Fertility Care Practitioner in Creighton Model of Fertility Care and FertilityCare Medical Consultant in Naprotechnology.
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE
While in the University, he distinguished himself as a visionary of repute. He was a honourable congress man, later the Speaker of congress, and chairman of caretaker committee of the University of Benin Medical Student Association (UBEMSA). He was to be elected unanimously as the president of the Association before it was plunged into crisis by a faction of the Association.
On July 24, 2017 aged 46, Dr Ikubese made an open declaration to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, making him the first Young Person to aspire to rule Africa’s most populous nation with a unique selfless, people-oriented manifesto sure to turn Nigeria around for good.
He later joined the National Conscience Party (NCP), founded by the late human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi and eventually the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) which was adopted by the Nigerian Intervention Movement (NIN), transversing the length and breath of Nigeria with the gospel of a new functional nation, where selfless service and accountability is the watch word. His philosophy was that “politics should be for service and not for the accumulation of wealth”, stating in his manifesto that political office holders should earn salaries in the range of civil servants, while income/expenditure of government at all levels should be published on monthly basis and made available to Nigerians, and that political office holders charged with corruption should be speedily tried in a Special Anticorruption Court within six months and the penalty be life imprisonment without an option of fine, amongst others.
After his declaration, a couple of other young persons followed suit in making their own declarations too for the same office.
Dr Ikubese, seeing these young persons jostling for the same office with similar agenda of salvaging Nigeria, reached out to them to come together to have an in-house arrangement that would produce one consensus candidate to represent the New Generation of politicians, while others step down.
The idea was to give Nigerians a solid, consentual alternative to the two major parties of All Progressive Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Unfortunately, some of the New Generation politicians walked away from the novel arrangements, while some of those who participated in the process till the end refused to honour the terms of the agreement by still proceeding to participate in the presidential election, against the memorandum of understanding they all signed before the in-house electoral process.
Dr Ikubese was one of the very few presidential aspirants who maintained his integrity, honoured the terms of the agreement by stepping down in support of the consensus candidate in the 2019 presidential election, a stance that earned him the name “Mr Integrity”.
LIFE-IMPACTING PROJECT
In his final year, he conducted a research across the University of Benin and Benin city. The aim of the research was to find out why some people are successful and others are not. The outcome of the research led him to establish THE THOMAS-WILSON FOUNDATION, a global mind-building organization which motto is Personal development and entrepreneurship.
This organization organizes seminars, symposia, workshops across various institutions of learning, corporate bodies and parastatals with the goal of sowing the seed of entrepreneurship and leadership attribute in youths and the old alike. The Foundation was also involved in the works of CHARITY to the less privileged.
The foundation eventually metamorphosed into the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, a Non-Governmental Organization which seeks to build youths into responsible citizens, doing well for themselves and benefiting their societies.
This metamorphosis occured after the 2019 national political voyage of Dr Ikubese wherein he ran for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with him as the Convener
