Ondo 2024: Christian Community Applauded for Creating Platform for Gubernatorial Candidates to Share Manifestos
In a remarkable display of civic engagement and unity, the Christian Community in Ondo State has been lauded for organizing an interactive session for all governorship candidates in the upcoming election.
The interaction was held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Ondo Province 4 Headquarters, adjacent to Akure South Local Government, the event provided an invaluable opportunity for candidates to present their visions for the state.
The programme was met with praise and described as “timely and significant” by attendees who spoke to Democrat News Magazine emphasizing that the initiative came at a crucial time and from a trusted institution, underscoring the Church’s role in fostering community welfare and responsible governance.
The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ondo State Chapter, Bishop Joshua Opayinka, articulated the purpose of the event: to offer each candidate a chance to present their core agenda and to engage in a constructive dialogue with the Church.
“The Church, along with the people, will be directly affected by the policies of the incoming administration,” Bishop Opayinka noted, highlighting the importance of an interface where concerns and questions could be openly addressed.
The event commenced around 11:00 am., featuring candidates from major parties—APC, PDP, SDP, LP, NNPP, PRP, and others. Each candidate took the stage in turn, passionately presenting their plans to promote growth and development in Ondo State.
The session was expertly managed by PFN Secretary Rev. Gregory, ensuring that the day flowed smoothly and effectively.
Beyond political discourse, the gathering showcased mutual respect and camaraderie among the candidates as they exchanged warm greetings, symbolizing a spirit of sportsmanship and brotherly love, a rare sight in the often-competitive political arena.
The event also allowed the church to carry out a series of prayers, lifting each candidate and the state as a whole before God as they approach Saturday’s election. These prayers were deeply appreciated by attendees, further emphasizing the Church’s commitment to peace, unity, and positive governance in Ondo State.
The PFN leadership used the platform to appeal for calm and decorum, urging the people of Ondo State to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.
Notable attendees included Engr. Rasaq Obe, representing APC’s Governor Aiyedatiwa; Mrs. Wurola Agboola Ajayi, representing her husband from PDP; Hon. Dayo Awude, representing Barr. Sola Ebiseni of LP; Mr. Francis Ali of PRP; the Deputy Governorship Candidate representing Otunba Bamidele Akingboye of SDP; and Barr. Olugbenga Edema of NNPP, who attended in person. Each representative commended the Church for its prayers and advisory role in promoting peace and development across Ondo State.
