OSOPADEC Flags Off 2023/2024 Scholarship/Bursary Awards as Commissioner, Workers Commend Secretary’s Dedication
The Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), under the exemplary leadership of Princess Abike Ilawole, has officially flagged off the 2023/2024 Scholarship and Bursary Awards for students from the mandate areas.
This long-anticipated event, held on Monday, November 11, 2024, within the commission’s headquarters in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area, drawing applause from students, dignitaries, and staff alike.
Representing the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Laolu Akindolire, inaugurated the payment process, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to education and welfare in the oil-producing regions.
Dr. Akindolire lauded Princess Abike Ilawole for her tireless efforts in ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every eligible student in mandate areas of Ilaje and Ese-Odo.
“Today, we witness the fruits of dedicated leadership and a genuine drive for progress. This is a proof that what a man can do woman can do better,” he said, acknowledging OSOPADEC’s focused administration under Princess Ilawole.
In a noteworthy remark, Mr. Ebiseni, a union leader, expressed that this ceremony marked a historical shift as it unfolded peacefully—unlike previous years, which were often marred by protests and unrest.
“For the first time in nearly a decade, we see a smooth, protest-free flag off, which speaks volumes about the harmony between OSOPADEC and its beneficiaries,” he observed.
Princess Abike Ilawole, OSOPADEC’s Secretary, opened the event by commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering dedication to the people of Ondo State. She extended her heartfelt gratitude to him for prioritizing the welfare and development of students in the mandate areas.
“This bursary and scholarship scheme is not just a support; it’s a call for students to remain focused on their academic pursuits. Education is the key that unlocks our collective future,” she urged.
Also addressing the audience, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Ilawole, echoed sentiments of gratitude and praised OSOPADEC’s continuous strides toward student empowerment.
The Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, Mr. Kelvin Solomon Olaolu, further reinforced the government’s commitment, describing Governor Aiyedatiwa as a leader guided by divine wisdom and goodwill.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is a man with a vision for Ondo State’s greatness, and he calls upon the youth to uphold peace, especially with the forthcoming elections,” he said.
The beneficiaries included a diverse group of undergraduates, Master’s, and PhD students, all from the mandate areas.
