Teachers Appeal to Government for Provision of Palliative Buses for Public Servants
Mrs. Ojapinwa Olufunke, Head Teacher of St. James CAC Mega School, Iro-Akure, has made a passionate appeal to both the state and federal governments, urging them to provide palliative buses for teachers and public servants. This, she said, would ease their transportation challenges and help them cope with the current economic hardship in the country.
In an interview with Democrat News Magazine in her office, Mrs. Ojapinwa highlighted the difficulties teachers are facing due to the rising cost of fuel and essential commodities. She explained that despite these challenges, she has put all necessary structures in place to ensure smooth teaching and learning processes in the ongoing 2024/2025 academic session.
“We have started the new session with headteacher tests and other necessary preparations. However, with the increase in fuel prices and the general cost of living, we are deeply concerned about how our teachers will be able to manage,” Mrs. Ojapinwa stated.
She continued by emphasizing the need for palliative support: “We pray that the government will assist us by providing palliative buses for teachers to commute to and from school. This would go a long way in ensuring they can carry out their duties effectively, despite the economic difficulties.”
Mrs. Ojapinwa also expressed her gratitude to parents who have begun bringing their children back to school, noting that the N5,000 collectable fee is meant to support the institution in maintaining quality standards. She urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, especially at this critical stage of their development.
“Our school is committed to providing not only academic excellence but also entrepreneurial skills. We have initiatives such as fish farming, tomato cultivation, and other vocational programmes to equip our pupils with essential life skills beyond the classroom,” she added.
Mrs. Ojapinwa concluded by reaffirming the school’s dedication to holistic education, ensuring that students excel not only in academics but also in other areas that will prepare them for a successful future.
