Ondo State Government Boosts Health Sector, To Provide Infrastructure Overhaul
In a major move to enhance service delivery across key sectors, the Ondo State Government has announced the recruitment of 3,000 professionals, including 1,000 health workers and 2,000 teachers for both primary and secondary schools. This initiative is part of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration’s ongoing efforts to bolster the state’s civil service and improve public welfare.
The announcement was made during a joint briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Akure.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Wale Akinlosotu, emphasized the administration’s dedication to prioritizing workers’ welfare, citing the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage recently passed by the National Assembly.
On health sector, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka, highlighted the government’s strides in the health sector, including the training of health professionals in mental health and clinical practices across all 18 local governments. Additionally, 130 health workers across 65 facilities have been trained in self-breast examination and clinical skills this year alone.
Dr. Ajaka also revealed ongoing renovations and upgrades to healthcare infrastructure, including new surgical and medical wards at the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure and the extension of critical departments at the General Hospital in Igbokoda. Renovation efforts have also been carried out at the General Hospital in Iwaro-Oka, where children’s, isolation, and female wards have been upgraded.
In line with the administration’s commitment to quality healthcare, over ₦100,000,000 worth of drugs and medical supplies have been distributed to secondary and tertiary health facilities. The government’s Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) has also provided health coverage for over 101,017 public servants, with more than 460 surgeries performed under the scheme.
On Housing and Infrastructure Development, further emphasizing infrastructural growth, the State Commissioner for Land and Housing, Mr. Akinwumi Sowore, highlighted several projects, including the construction of a new High Court Complex and the allocation of 100 hectares of land for 1,000 housing units across Akure, Ikare, Ore, and Ugbo.
The ongoing efforts reflect the Aiyedatiwa-led administration’s commitment to building on the foundation laid by the late Akeredolu government, ensuring sustainable development in health, education, and infrastructure for the people of Ondo State.
