SDP Welcomes APC Members Ahead of Ondo Governorship Election in Support of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have decided to leave the party to support Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (Oba) as the November 16 governorship election approaches in the state.

During a welcoming event at the SDP Secretariat on Oyemekun Road, Akure, on Thursday, the State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Barr. Gbenga Akinbuli, expressed that the defectors are disillusioned with the current government’s performance.

In his words: “We can see the large turnout of people joining the SDP in Ondo State. People can no longer be deceived by the APC government.

“Our expectation from the new members is that they work diligently, moving from one unit to another, to ensure the victory of the SDP candidate at the polls.

“Today, apart from the DPM, we have five other groups joining us. This reflects the confidence the people of Ondo State have in our candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (Oba).

“We are very happy to welcome them, and we are still expecting more people from the opposition parties.”

Speaking with the Democrat News Magazine, the leader of the DPM and Director General of the SDP candidate, Engr. Femi Ikoyi, explained that their mass movement from the APC to the SDP was due to the failure of the APC at the state level.

Engr. Femi Ikoyi emphasized that they joined the SDP to work tirelessly for the success of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, whom he described as a man of substance from his youth.

He urged the people of Ondo State to support the SDP before, during, and after the governorship election, adding that previous administrations had disappointed the state.

After officially joining the party, the new members tore up their APC membership cards and were issued SDP membership cards.
