OWA’S TRANSITION UPDATES: A Week Curfew from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM Starts Today In Idanre

As part of the transition rites for the late His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, (JP) OFR, Owa of Idanre Kingdom and paramount ruler of Idanre land, who passed away on Tuesday, 30th July 2024, a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been declared in Odode Idanre. This curfew will be in effect from Monday, 5th August 2024, to Sunday, 11th August 2024.

The curfew, a part of the rites to honor the departed sage, will start at 6:00 PM and end at 6:00 AM each day during this period. It marks a mourning time when no drumming, dancing, burials, or any festivities are permitted throughout the land.

Anyone who violates these rules will face consequences in accordance with the culture and traditions of the Makanres people of Idanre land.

Previously, trees were cut throughout Odode Idanre township, and markets were relocated to adjacent streets or available spaces. Additionally, on Friday, the “Igbala” procession took place around Idanre township, an event traditionally forbidden but conducted as part of the Owa’s burial rites.

Meanwhile, High Chief Christopher Oluwole Akindolire, the Lisa of Idanre land, has assumed the Regency of Idanre land. In accordance with Idanre culture and tradition, he has been bestowed with the powers of the Owa until a new Owa ascends the throne. He may delegate responsibilities to other chiefs or palace staff as needed.
