The Ondo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially presented its gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, as a leader with the potential to rescue the state from financial turmoil.

The party leadership made this announcement on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the NUJ Event Centre in Alagbaka, Akure.

Welcoming the party leaders, the Chairman of the NUJ in Ondo State, Prince Leke Adegbite, expressed delight at their visit, stating, “We are happy to see you at the NUJ embassy. We welcome you and assure you of our unbiased reportage. We can say it anywhere that since the race started, we have remained impartial umpires.”

The Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, Mr. Tola Alabere, expressed his gratitude for the existing relationship, saying, “Our purpose here is to unveil the candidate of our party, Hon. (Dr.) Agboola Ajayi, the incoming Governor by the grace of God.”

Presenting the candidate, former Commissioner for Information, Dr. Eddy Olorogun Olafeso, PhD, highlighted Agboola Ajayi’s long history of leadership, starting at age 20. He likened Agboola Ajayi’s candidacy in the November election to a young man competing among others to climb Mount Everest, facing many casualties yet emerging successful.

“In the November 16 election, there will be surprises with Agboola Ajayi’s victory. In Nigeria today, 18 million people are living in poverty, and many millions are out of school. We are going to fix Ondo State through Agboola Ajayi. Nobody is going to be left behind,” Olafeso emphasized. He also highlighted the plan to combat criminality and alleviate the suffering in the country, expressing confidence that Agboola Ajayi would restore order and prosperity in Ondo State.

In his remarks, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who has served in various positions including as a member of the House of Representatives and as Deputy Governor, acknowledged the current challenges in the state and pledged to improve the situation.

Addressing questions, Agboola Ajayi outlined his plans to roll out massive infrastructure projects to keep people employed. On minimum wage, he assured that he has a better agenda for the state’s people, which he will make public immediately upon taking office. On agriculture, he noted that Ondo State has the capacity to feed the Southwest and promised to seize this opportunity. For education, he pledged to revive the government printing press to produce textbooks, easing the burden on parents.

Regarding security, Ajayi mentioned his role in establishing Amotekun and forest guards as Deputy Governor, emphasizing the importance of involving traditional rulers in ensuring proper synergy. He also promised the creation of a game village and an Olympic-standard sports stadium within four years.

Ajayi criticized the cancellation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), calling for an appeal of the judgment, warning that otherwise, all related expenses and documentation would be wasted. He vowed to address sea incursion and make Aiyetoro a healthy community if elected Governor.

Concluding, Ajayi assured that state-owned media organizations would be revamped.

The event was attended by several party leaders, including Dr. Eddy Olorogun Olafeso, Dr. Tayo Dairo, Ambassador Omolade Oluwateru, Mr. Sam Ogunmusi, Mr. Tola Alabere, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, Mr. John Olamafo, and others.
