Ekiti State First Lady Addresses Stakeholders on UN Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
The Ekiti State First Lady, Prof. Olayemi Oyebanji, has called on the students and youth of Ekiti State to shun illicit drugs due to the imminent danger they pose to their future.
She made this call while addressing stakeholders in Ekiti State at the celebration of this year’s United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was held at the conference hall of her office, where she spoke in her capacity as the Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) and the State Champion of the Campaign Against Drug Abuse.
Prof. Oyebanji stated, “Today, I addressed stakeholders at the celebration of this year’s United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at the conference hall of my office in my capacity as the Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) and the State Champion of the Campaign Against Drug Abuse.”
“I used the forum to counsel our students and youths to shun drug abuse, which can have adverse effects on their mental health and hamper their future dreams and ambitions. Drug abuse has also been found to trigger many criminal activities in our society.”
She further called on stakeholders, including security agencies, educational institutions, the criminal justice sector, traditional institutions, religious leaders, faith-based organizations, and civil society organizations, to engage in sustained collaboration to stamp out the twin evils of drug abuse and trafficking from the land.
