ONDO NOA URGES HEALTH PROVIDERS TO COMPLY WITH THE GUNSHOT ACT OF 2017
Following the enactment of Gunshot Act of 2017, that mandates all medical facilities to receive and accept victims of gunshot for immediate treatment with or without Police report, the State Director of Ondo NOA, Mrs. Adelayo Adefolalu has called on all medical health providers both private and public in the state to give prompt attention and treatment to victims of gunshot with or without Police report. This is coming against the backdrop of the recent raging concern over the rising loss of lives due to the refusal of some health institutions failing to comply with the tenets of the Gunshot Act of July 2017.
The State Director emphasized that there is need for drastic action against health facilities that refuse treatment of gunshot patients without Police report in ensuring strict compliance with the provision of section 1 of the compulsory treatment and care for victims of Gunshot Act 2017.
The NOA Boss therefore called on all medical practitioners in the state to comply with this National law by providing not just First Aid but full prompt treatment and care for victims of gunshot in order to prevent death while enlightenment campaign and public awareness efforts are being put in place by the Agency to ensure adequate compliance to the Act by Nigeria Health care providers.
She also urged the Nigeria Police Force to comply and enforce the provision of the Act in compulsory treatment and educating that the treatment of gunshot victims is not illegal.
