Akure NBA Organizes Public Lecture, Awards In Honour of Akeredolu

The leadership of Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) under Olabanjo Ayenakin Esq, has organized Public Lecture and awards in honour of late Governor of Ondo State, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN CON.

A well attended public Lecture and Awards with the theme ” Tranformational Leadership and Good Governance” was held at Aare Afe Babalola, NBA House, Akure on Wednesday, 6th March, 2024.

While speaking on the rationale the organization of the programme, NBA state chairman, Olabanjo Aiyenakin said that the late Governor Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was exemplary leader whose life and times showed he was a beacon of hope.

He pointed out that late Arakunrin Akeredolu was a leader with many difference whose legacy is worth celebrating.

Barr. Aiyenakin said the bane of Nigeria’s development is poor leadership and governance and that the theme of the programme: “Transformational Leadership and Governance in Nigeria”, was carefully picked to address the issue

While noting that all awardees were carefully selected for their excellent leadership, he charged other professional bodies to also take the leader stressing that a mutlisectoral approach to the problem will birth the desired change.

 

While speaking at the event, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, mni, thanked NBA for honouring the late Governor affirming that he indeed left an indelible mark on the sands of time.

Dr. Adelami said that it is on record that late Gov. Akeredolu won the admiration of Nigerians for being audacious in fighting insecurity in the country and South West in particular.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award on behalf of the late Governor Akeredolu, Hon Justice Alero thanked NBA for the honour just as she restated that Aketi as he is fondly called had intended to retire to bar before his unfortunate death.

Speaking to the theme of the lecture earlier, former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi spoke extensively on transformational leadership describing it as one that inspires change, challenges existing law, ignites passion towards achieving shared goals for a community.

He said: “Our own dear Arakunrin just like our sage Chief Awolowo was a transformational leader with high moral values. He left behind a legacy of dedication and good governace. He worked tirelessly to birth change”,

He also used the opportunity to identify transparency and participation as key principles of good governance.

As part of the highlight of the event was panel discussion by Hon. Eni Akinsola and Hon Rotimi Olorunfemi on the theme of the programme

Two of the awardees who spoke with newsmen shortly after receiving their awards thanked NBA for the honour.

Dr. Funmilola Williams-Daudu while particularly dedicating the award to all men most especially husband’s who are not intimidated by their wife’s success, appreciated her husband for being a pillar of encouragement and support for her.

Also responding to the gesture, Adeboro Lateef Adamson, SAN applauded the state chapter of NBA for the honour just as he restated the importance transformational leadership noting that it is the key to Nigeria’s development.

Other awardees are the event include Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, Sen. Niyi Adegbonmire, SAN, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, among others.
