It was moment of loud ovation for Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (Oba) one of the leading Governorship Aspirants under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party at the Party Secretariat during his interface with the leadership of the party on Monday February, 26, 2024.
Akingboye whose confidence of picking the party ticket was high stressing the Consensus arrangement that is being proposed by the leadership of the party will come to pass in his favour because he seemed to be the most experienced among others contestants.
According to him: “Our party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Ondo State is saying that a consensus arrangement would be put in place to pick the candidate that will fly the flag of the party in November 2024 governorship election.
OBA reiterated that he has been the most consistent members of the party of all the Aspirants, he has not change party since 1999 when compared to other aspirants in the contest who have been on and off from the party, saying his commitment and total loyalty to the party better position him for the governorship ticket.
In his words: “I have been a party members from 1999, till date and I can’t run away from the PDP. I have been building the party in Ondo State for years and PDP remains the best political party to drive home my ambition and because of the peculiarity of the state, I will pick the party ticket at the primaries”.
Akingboye described himself as a political heavy duty vehicle that is capable of crushing oppositions, saying “I will not step down and I am sure I will win the primaries come April, 2024.
The Acting State Chairman, Basorun Tola Alabere, stated during an interactive session organized by the State Working Committee (SWC) members and leaders of the Party, with aspirants jostling for the party’s Guber ticket that the party will prefer consensus candidate for the good of all and sundry in the party.
The Chairman, Alabere, assured the aspirants that, the PDP is desirous of a consensus arrangement for picking a standard bearer, noting that if it fails, the party will organise a free, fair and transparent party primaries.
This was contained in a press release made available to the pressmen by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP on Monday.
It reads: “Rising from the meeting at the State Secretariat at Akure on Monday, 26th February, 2024, the aspirants expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to win the governorship election in the face of hunger and anger in the land orchestrated by the All Progressives Party (APC).
“All the Aspirants were in high spirits and gave firm commitment to supporting whoever emerges as flag bearer of the party.”
The governorship aspirants that attended the interactive session are, H.E Agboola Ajayi, Chief Olusola Ebiseni, Engr. Adeolu Akinwunmi, Prince John Mafo, Otunba Benson Akingboye(OBA), Hon. Sheba Abayomi and Arebuwa Bosun.
Other leaders in attendance includes former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Dr Tayo Dairo, Engr Clement Faboyede, Dr Kola Ademujimi and others.
