Glow 99.1 FM Opens For Operation In Akure

Another Raido Station, Glow-99.1 FM has commenced operation in Akure Ondo State Capital for the promotion of cultural values and re-awakening of Youths in Ondo State and Nigeria at large.

The Glow 99.1 FM Akure was commissioned by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on Wednesday 21st of February, 2024 at Efon-Alaaye Street, Ijapo Estate in Akure.

While speaking on the vision that berth the project the Chairman and CEO of Glow 99.1 FM, Dr. Ezekiel Akande said it was a vision God gave him when he was at a critical point of his life.

Dr. Akande who hailed from, Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State has been a practicing Medical Doctor for more than forty years said he was set to advance the course of humanity through the instrumentality of Radio Broadcasting.

He squired education from different parts of Nigeria and eventually graduated as a doctor from the college of medicine University of Ibadan, in 1986. He had the opportunity to study and practice medicine at the highest level after travelling to the US in 1992.

He eventually return to Nigeria in 2022 when God spoke to him to come home and give back to his people by establish ,this radio station and a hospital .

“I had the fortune of meeting many people who made this project possible , some of whom are President Buhari as well as the Ooni of Ife,Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja the second and I am greatly indebted to both of them.

“I was inspired by God while in the US ( this may sound cliche) to come home to Nigeria to establish this radio station and a first class hospital which should begin after this project is accomplished by the grace of God.

“The reasons for this radio station is to give voice to disenfranchised people of Ondo State especially people from where I hailed from and to create for them a seat at the table where their welfare is being discussed , and by extension the disenfranchised young people of Nigeria who make over 70 percent of Nigeria’s population and have never been empowered .

“I want to also give young people a voice, and a seat at the table through passing credible and empowering information to them instead of dumbing them down deliberately and I hope I as part of a team will accomplish this mission in due cause of time by the grace of God with your support. I feel I am doing God’s work and this is my ministry.”

Speaking on the topic: “Sustaining Radio Broadcasting in a current Economic hardship” Prof. Ralph Abimbola, HOD, Mass Communication Department, AAUA who gave a vivid description of radio and it’s inherent functions said it is the most accessible medium to mass communication.

Speaking on cause of economic hardship in the country, Abimbola said that the situation of Nigeria is like a farmer after harvesting his yam he sold to the person that will turn it to pounded yam and went to buy at high cost in the canteen.

He noted that people are becoming poorer day by day stressing that opportunity are no longer available for the masses as the value of the currency has gone down tremendously.

He charged the management of the FM station to give to what people what they love so that people can also love them in return.

Charged them to focus on unique selling point and to allow editorial independence and that decision making process should stable and available for the purpose of success.

Saying in the words of Maxwell that “People don’t care how much you know, but how much you care” therefore calling for total welfare of workers.
