St. Michael’s Catholic High School Holds Annual Inter-House Sports In Grandstyle

One of the leading secondary schools in Ondo State, St. Michael’s Catholic High School, Akure under the leadership of Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide has held it’s 2023/2024 Annual Inter-House Sports competition in grandstyle.

The Inter-House Sports Competition was held within the school premises on 18th of January, 2024 where students of the school demonstrated their skills in various sporting activities.

The leadership of the school provided good ambient for all the students to develop their God given talents and skills not only in sports but also in all other human endeavours.

Delivering his address at the occasion, the Principal, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide appreciated the consistent and persistent love for the development of sports in the great citadel of learning and Nigeria at large.

Award winning Principal, pointed out that the importance of sports in mental and physical development of any child cannot be overemphasized, adding that apart from physical fitness, mental alertness and other vital roles that sports plays in the lives of students, it has now created career path for so many talented youths who have taken to sports such as football, volley ball, basketball and athletics.

Oluyide said: “Today a lot of youths earn millions of Naira through sports. In view of the enormous benefits one can derive from engaging in sporting activities, it is imperative that all major Stakeholders in education should encourage sports in our schools for all round development of the students.

“On our part as administrators, we shall continue to encourage and assist the students to discover their hidden talents and nurture them to full potentials so that these students will be great and fulfilled life like the globally accliamed best 100 meters hurdle sprinter, Tobi Amusan of Nigeria, the current African Footballer of the year for both men and women categories, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen of Napoli in Italy and Asisat Osuala of Barcelona in Spain respectively.

Adeniyi Oluyide who bagged Icon of Education in Nigeria last year, candidly advised parents not to discourage their children and wards that have talents and are interested in sports rather they should give them necessary support to enable them achieve their goals.

After the keenly contested games and race Blue House came first, while Red House and Green House came second and third respectively.

Different schools from within Akure and its environ were invited to participate in Inter-School relay races as dignitaries that graced the event described it as watershed in the history of the school.
