Dr. (Barr.) Sylvester Adu Olumuyiwa has called on eminent sons and daughters of Akure and non indigenes alike to come in their large numbers to participate and contribute towards the success of 2023 Ulefunta festival.
Dr. Adu Olumuyiwa who is Chairman of 2023 Ulefunta made this call while having a chat with journalists in Akure on Wednesday 11th of October, 2023 said it is of necessity to rally support for the development of Akure.
He said: “Ulefunta is a notable Akure festival. It is a cultural festival that is synonymous to the Akure people., which of course should be what every indigene, every soul that is given birth to in Akure and even those that live in Akure should participate in. It’s a replica of what we have in Ijebu- “Ojude Oba”.
Adu charged everyone depending on their line of thinking to maximally contribution to the advancement of Akure Community.
“We are not all equally endowed and some may not even have money to contribute but their moral and other physical efforts can even worth millions. It should be a festival that should be all inclusive not just limited to financial contributions alone and the only thing is that the physical presence of our people both home and abroad is as good as contributing money itself.
“Doing this is as a kind of rallying the Akure indigenes together in a way that the people can remember home, invest at home, try to see how they can also help themselves, so that a lot people can be developed in one way or the other and can make life more meaningful and better for the people. I think it’s a thing that everyone should actually commend.
When asked, his motivation in for unabated passion to help the downtrodden in the society, Dr. Adu said: “The line of thinking of so many people is quite different from mine. I don’t even want to know where you come from for me to be able to at least support you from the little that God has given me.
“I don’t even need to know your background, I don’t need to know you because my general believe is that I am not better than anybody, it’s not because I’m more educated, I’m only lucky and by God’s mercy and grace, I’m one of the average Nigerians and what else can I offer the community or the society, is nothing more than trying to support others that are also not having that which they required to live up to expectations.
“My philanthropism it is just a gift from God and I can tell you, it’s not everybody that has that can actually give to the people.”
