National President Of NULGE Warns Abia State Governor Over Undue Interference In Union

The National President of Nigeria Union Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji has sent a strong warning to the Abia state governor, Mr. Alex Otti to desist from his unwanted involvement in the affairs of NULGE in the the state, else he will be embarrassed.

Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji made this known while speaking with journalists Akure, Ondo State during the 8 quadrennial State delegates Conference on Friday 29th of September 2023 at NULGE House along Ilesha road.

Comrade Olatunji said it is uncalled for seeing a governor that emerged under the platform of Labour Party demonstrating anti- Labour attitudes towards workers in his state.

In his words: “We have told told him that we are going to embarrass him if he does not desist from his mission to impose political loyalist on our union.

“We have conducted an election and we have leader the governor decided to impose his stooges on us in NULGE to be at the helms of affairs in order to control the union and to divert the local government allocation, but  union will resist this moves.

“He wanted to impose a weak leader so that he will be able to take control of the union without recourse to workers and well being of the people in the state.

“NULGE is using this medium to warn the governor of Abia state, Alex Otti, for his undue Interference in the affairs of NULGE and attempt to hijack the leadership of the union and we rejecting this and we are saying that he has no right to annul our election and to impose his brothers and cronies to take over the leadership of the union.”

“We were disappointed that after the conduct of our election before the inauguration of the present administration in Abia state of Governor Otti of Labour Party.

“He assumed office and the first thing he does was to go after the industrial union and made an attempt to seize the leadership of the NURTW which was rebuffed by the NLC.

“He moved to NULGE and decided he had to take over the union, hijacked the leadership in a Gestapo manner and we were surprised that someone that was elected and had a democratic mandate could turn to dictatorship by hijacking the leadership of our union.

“He attempted to set up an illegal caretaker committee which he has no right because labour is on the exclusive legislative and not on the concurrent list, he has no power under the constitution to meddle in union affairs.

Olatunji said “His attempt to administer our union for us is condemnable, and unacceptable. We therefore call on the leadership of the Labour Party to call Governor Otti to order.

He commended the maturity of Local Government Workers in Ondo State saying that the election was seamless and violence free which he said it’s an improvement over the past.

Speaking on Autonomy of Local Government in Nigeria, Olatunji said Federal Government under the leadership of Bola Tinubu has not made clear statement saying that basic amenities are lacking because of not putting right person at the saddle of leadership.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who was represented by his Special Adviser on Union matters & Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaiye; the State Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, NLC Chairman, Comrade Victor Amoko wished the new leaders of the union well in their leadership adventure and prayed for the success.

In his acceptance speech new president  of NULGE in Ondo State, Comrade Federick thanked God for the success of the whole process and promised to follow the steps of his predecessor, Comrade Bola Taiwo.
