The leadership of Sunshine Grassroots Alliance (SUGA) in Ondo State has called on it’s members across the 18 Local Government Areas to come out and contest for Chairmanship and Councilorship positions in the forthcoming Local Government Election.
The call was made at the inauguration of the group on Wednesday 26th of April, 2023 after matching from Adegbemile to Akure City Hall as a way of creating awareness about the new group.
While introducing the group, Comrade Victor Omodara said Sunshine Grassroots Alliance is a merger of members of NULGE and NUT across the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.
Omodara noted that: “SUGA is a combination of Local Employees and Primary School teachers. We have children, Husbands, wives, brothers and sisters. We are here today to break the culture of silence and to speak up, to make known what we stand for.
While speaking at the event. Dr. Deji Akinwalere former National NULGE President and a retired Permanent Secretary in Ondo State said Local Government workers have necessary qualifications in all areas to lead as Chairmen and Commissioners and even as Governor and President.
Akinwalere who is also the Coordinator of SUGA in Ondo State noted that worker are the ones training politicians on what to do before they could function effectively whenever new Local Government Chairmen and Councilors are elected.
In his words: “It will take 6 months to train the politicians and after the training they will say I don’t like the face of so and so person and they will transfer him or her out of the local government, if one of us who already know what to do becomes Chairman of a particular Council it will enhance development rapidly.”
He. Charged them to get registered as members of any political parties of their choice, to get their PVC and to actively participate in politics.
Also in his comment, a retired Permanent Secretary, former, NULGE President and Secretary to Osun State Government, Comrade Olowogboyega pointed out that teachers and Local Government workers are eminently qualified to lead the country at all capacities.
Olowogboyega noted that NUT gave birthday to national politics of Nigeria stressing that people like Enahoro, Koko-Ori, Nkrumah and a host of others were teachers during their time and yet did well in nation building.
Also speaking Comrade (Dr) Olubunmi Eniayewu said now is the right time for the right people come out and indicate their interest in politics for the good the people at the grassroots.
“There is laid down procedure for anyone that wants to contest, if he/she is a worker he/she has to resign from civil service.
Also in their comment, President of NULGE, Comrade Bola Taiwo, his Deputy, Comrade Fred Akinrinlola, and NUT Chairman Comrade Victor Amoko who was represented by Secretary 2 , Comrade Akogun Gabriel made known their readiness to support any of their members that made themselves available for any political positions.
They also called on their members to take the awareness to all the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.
