WE SPENT 7MILLION TO CLEAR REFUSE IN SHASHA LAST YEAR SAYS SARKIN;IT CAN BE TURNED TO ORGANIC FERTILIZER SAYS WASTE MANAGEMENT GM. The Sarkin Shasha Market Oba -Ile in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State His Highness Shehu Dangari Abdullahi has disclosed that over 7million naira was expended on the removal and clearing of refuse and other waste at Shasha Market in the year 2022.He made the disclosure during sentizaitation and advocacy visit by the Management of Ondo State Waste Management Authority to the market.He admonished the Ondo State Government to come to the aid of the Shasha community in the area of evacuation of the refuse and other waste. Earlier, the Management of the Waste Management led by the General Manager has commended the leadership of the Community for maintaining good and healthy environment and urged them to do everything with a view to ensuring that Shasha Market is devoid of waste and refuse all the time.The GM stated that the community must guide against outbreak of Lassa fever pointing out that Shasha Market is prone to outbreak of diseases if the environment is dirty.However,the team from the Waste Management Authority commended the Sanitation Committee of Shasha Market and called for collaboration between them so that the market and the environment is perfectly clean all the time. Meanwhile,the Head of Environmental Enforcement Team appreciated the leadership of the Community for a job well done and admonished them to keep the environment clean all the time.She pointed out that the Enforcement Team will soon begin operation pointing out that anyone find culpable would be penalized according to the law Also speaking,the Chairman of the community Alhaji Dakuro thanked the Waste Management Authority senior official for their visit and promised that Shasha Market will continue to maintain high hygiene and clean environment all the time. Moreso, the General Secretary of the Shasha community, Alhaji Aminu Jubril stated that for some years,the Waste Management Authority and Shasha community had so many things together with a view to ensuring that Shasha Market is environmentally conducive for traders and residents of the community.He assured the top brass of the Waste Management Authority of their renewed comittement to ensuring that everything is done so that Shasha Market remains one of the best markets in Ondo State. In another development,the Financial Secretary of Shasha Market averred that the issue of washing carrots and other vegetables in unclean water has been addressed. “Our members that selling the various vegetables have been cautioned and educated on the dangers that are inherent in washing vegetables with detergent and dirty water,and they are no longer indulging in the habits for some years now ” He pointed.The Financial Secretary stated that , they will continue to enlightening themselves on personal and environmental hygiene in order to prevent out break of diseases.He mentioned that the whooping sum of over 7miillion spent to remove waste and refuse in the community in 2022 called for sober reflection and begged the government to come to their aid.
