The Rotary Club of Akure Prestige under the leadership of Rotarian Adesoji Samson Omotade has given scholarship to Blessing John, an orphan to study from Secondary School to University level as part of their humanitarian contributions to the society.
Omotade and his executive members handed over Blessing John to the Authority of C.A.C Adu Memorial High School, Akure, on Tuesday 17th of May, 2022.
While speaking at the event, the President of Rotary Club of Akure Prestige, Rotarian Omotade said the gesture was part of the numerous contributions of Rotary Club to give face lift to the downtrodden in society.
In his words: “We are doing this to give education to the less privileged in order to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich. Education is very important as bedrock of human development.
“Giving education to children is a way of giving them proper footing for the great future. We are ready to sponsor her from secondary School to University; because one of our focal points in Rotary is qualitative education.
“We are giving her free education, and to take care of her welfare in all areas of life for her to be able to concentrate on her education.
Omotade said that Rotary got to know about the plight of the little girl from community reportage of the only indigenous News Magazine “Dingi Oodua”
In the same way, he charged the girl to be dedicated to her education and to become an object of pride for the Rotary Club and entire people of Nigeria saying that her success will pave way for others to benefit from kind gesture of the club.
In his comment, the guardian of Blessing John, Evangelist Ayodeji Oloniluyi said his family met her on the street through one his children and send her to learn free training on skill acquisition from Sojitade Foundation and the committee on the training said she is too young for what she wanted to do and the leadership of Rotary Club decided to sponsor her from Secondary School to University level.
In her response, the Principal of Adu Memorial School, Dr. (Mrs.) Asamo who was represented by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Evelyn Famori applauded the organization for their philanthropic gesture saying that the school will treasure their contributions to such an indigent student like Blessing John.
She said: “There are some other young boys and girls that are suffering the same fate like Blessing John due to separation of their parents. For this reason, I will like to appeal to Rotary Club of Akure Prestige to extend the gesture to others beyond this school.”
In the same way, the school counselor, Mrs. Oni Olayinka promised on behalf of the school to work on the girl to be able to meet up with academic standard of the school since she is joining in third term.
Rotarian Omolola Fadumiye (Secretary), Rotarian Olasunkami Olayade (Project Director) Rotarian Gbenga Okeowo (Board Member) and Rotarian Soji Agbelusi who spoke with journalists at the event accentuated the commitment of the Rotary Club of Akure Prestige to keep impacting of the downtrodden in all areas.
