Ondo NURTW Calls For Free, Fair Election Of Leaders

Members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State have called on government and other relevant stakeholders to provide enabling environment for them to elect leaders that will direct the affairs of the union.

Some of the members of the union that spoke with journalists in Akure on Monday, January 17, 2022 on the urgent need to conduct peaceful election devoid of imposition.

They said all the members of the union are ready to resist any imposition from any quarters.

In his chat with journalists Mr. Julius Akinsanmi said that transport business is at low estate after the festive period saying that members of the union are managing until things improve.

Our desire is to keep the peace we have been enjoying in all our parks in Ondo State and so government should support us by way of providing enabling environment for peaceful election.

Akinsanmi however said the leadership of the drivers’ union in the park has been up and doing in maintaining it.

Also in his comment, Mr. Teslim Bankole, Secretary Lagos route Ondo Park “We appreciated God for peace we have been enjoying peace after Idajo left.

Bankole who is popularly known as Sasaeniyan said: “We have to use this medium to call on government and relevant stakeholders to please help us to maintain this peace and tranquility in the state among drivers’ union.

“In Ondo State we have 106 units and we have all agreed to go to the field to elect new leaders of the union so that there would be no rancor.

Also Deacon Bankole Ojo, leaders of drivers’ union in Ondo State “When Jacob Adebo came we all show love to him but he made life uneasy for the members of the union.

“It was the genesis of the crises witnessed in the Union before government asked everyone to vacate the leadership position of the union and caretakers were sent from Osogbo.

“Recently some people came to Cathedral park and said Akeredolu has reinstated Idajo and they were ready to fight. We are only appealing to government to provide us conducive atmosphere so that we can elect leaders of our choice.
