The members of Ifelodun community, along FUTA North Gate in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State has provided grants for the widows and take delivery of motorized solar powered borehole donated to them by the Federal Government.
At their ‘end of the year party’ and ‘Father Christmas show’ for the children held within the premises of the chairman’s house where people from within and outside the community were entertained.
Some of the dignitaries at the occasion include the Akapinsa of Ipioinsa, Oba Olufunmilayo Omoniyi, Barr. Adurota and his wife, DPO Okuta-Elerinla among many notable landlords and landladies of the community.
The highlight of the programme include free medical checks with free drugs, empowerment of widows, distributions of gift items to children of the community among others.
Award winning Cultural Troupe of Akure South Local Government added glamour to the celebration as they thrill the audience to the dancing floor with their native tune.
While speaking at the event, the Akapinsa of Ipinsa Oba (Dr.) Olufunmilayo Omoniyi commended the chairman of the community (Engr. Stephen Olumilola Olusegun) for being a visionary leader and for his consistency in driving the development of the community.
Akapinsa also commended Federal Government for the provision of potable water for the residents of the community and called for more water projects in Akure communities saying that there are other community that are in similar challenges of shortage of water.
While commissioning the multimillion naira project, Oba Omoniyi charged the people of Ifelodun to make good use of the project and embraced quality maintenance culture.
He rejoiced with the members of the community for the good things they have achieved so far and promised to visit them often.
Earlier in his address the chairman of Ifelodun Community, and Chairman Old Students’ Association of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Engr. Olumilola Stephen Olusegun said it was a remarkable day in the history of the community being the first time to witness Federal Government projects in quick succession.
According to him “We are indeed very grateful to God and Federal Government who has deemed it fit and counted us worthy to be given the newly created polling unit 55 under ward 11 in Akure South Local Government in Ondo Central Senatorial District this year.
“As if that was not enough, a multi-million naira Solar Powered Motorized Borehole Project was also donated to us by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives of which our able Distinguished Senator Ayo Akinyelure is part of those who fought for this good things and its actualization.
“Entire members of the community acknowledge your good works at both your first and second terms in office as a Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in terms of provision of infrastructure to ease the difficulties of the people especially in the area of provision of portable water to curb the spread of water borne diseases that may arise as a result of intake of unwholesome consumption of water, provision of health facilities, construction of Road networks, provision of transformers to electrify various communities for thousands of indigenes of your constituency, and other sustainability programmes for the less privileged- (widows indigent students, employment for the youths) among others projects that you are doing starting from your first term in office and to this recent time.
Engr. Olusegun who is a retired Director in Ondo State Ministry of Works said the community has housing units of about 600 with population of 5,000 people therefore called on government to give them facelift in the areas of road construction, building of modern Health Centre, provision of additional 6000KVA transformer, provision of streetlight and a host of other needs.
He pointed out that many untold hardship have been inflicted on the people of the community by miscreants and unscrupulous elements because of lack of basic facilities in the area.
Members of the community who spoke at the event appreciated unprecedented leadership qualities of Engr. Olusegun and promised to support him if he desires to aspire for political position in the nearest future.
They also pointed the attention of the leadership of the community to havoc being perpetrated by erosion in one part of the community that is prone to erosion.
