ONDO JOURNALISTS TASK ON CONSTRUCTIVE JOURNALISM
…Ondo State First Lady Bags NUJ Award As lineup of activities to celebrate 2021 edition of Press Week of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Ondo State Council are being unfolded members of the union have been called upon to practice constructive journalism to help building a formidable nation. Rear Admiral Samuel Alade made the call while speaking with journalists shortly after his lecture on Tuesday, 23rd of November, 2021 at Pen House, Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State saying that journalists has fundamental roles in nation building. The anniversary lecture themed “A Nation at Crossroads: The Media Amidest National Security and Economic Woes” was delivered by Rear Admiral Samuel Alade (Rtd) under the chairmanship of Chief Mathew Oyerinmade MATO who was represented by Hon. Bimbo Fajolu. The event also features the decoration of some eminent Nigerians that have distinguished themselves in their various professions and callings as a way to encourage more impacts on humanity. Some of the awardees are the wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabirini Betty-Anyawun Akeredolu, Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Prof. Fasakin and Member House of Reps, Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo. In his lecture, Samuel Alade x-rayed the history of Nigeria media, the challenges and the critical roles that has translated to the development of the nation to this point. He therefore charged Nigerian Journalists to me more constructive and to carry out their duties with courage. In the same way, he called for independent of government owned media to enable journalists to practices journalism with the laid down ethics. Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of Ondo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Tona Aderoboye reel out the achievements of the Union under his leadership and also commended some individuals and institutions that contributed to the growth of the union in Ondo State. While responding, Ondo State First Lady Mrs. Betty Akeredolu who was represented at the event by her Chief Press Secretary Miss Tobi who thanked the organizers of event for recognizing the impacts of Ondo State First Lady which she said has been phenomenal. In her words: “The Ondo State First Lady is particularly delighted for the honour bestowed on her by esteemed Ondo State Council of NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Aderoboye. “Our First Lady has programme for girl child, women, widows, FOWOSO, BRECAN and many others and I am sure her Excellency has not relent in her efforts towards reaching the unreached. The press week started on Sunday 21st November, 2021 with a Thanksgiving Service at the Salvation Gospel International Centre (SGIC), under the leadership Pastor M. A. Foluso who is also one of the awardees to be honoured during its award night slated for Friday 26th November, 2021. Monday 22nd of November, 2021 was the medical outreach and visitation to motherless home respectively. Other events for the celebration including Health Walk, when all members converged at Press Centre to walk down to Adegbola and Arakale back to the take off point. Also the children party and final match of sport competition came up on Wednesday 24th while novelty football competition between members of NUJ and Ondo State Lawmakers slated to Thursday 25th at Sport Stadium, Akure, while the grand finale comes up on Friday 26th of November, Jumat Service at Government House Mosque and Dinner and award night later in the evening at NUJ Event Centre. |
